I would really like to see this type of punishment for "honor" killings get implemented worldwide. Might help to get the people following Islam to get a reality check.
But something else many countries that do have strong penalties for murder, really need to implement is a way to prevent Muslims especially Muslim males from taking female family members on sudden trips to Islamic countries that look the other direction when dealing with such barbaric murders.
I have heard that often what the male will do in order to get away with butchering their daughter or wife is book an emergency trip back to one of the Islamic countries. Saying that the emergency is a death in the family or some other “reasonable” sounding excuse.
Then they get back to the other country and the person that “dishonored” the family becomes the “death in the family” that caused the need for the emergency travel.
But that gets very difficult because how does a free society stop someone from traveling until they actually break a law. Especially if the person that is likely to be executed will not speak up and tell any officials.
But like most abuse victims it is very difficult for the person that has been abused to trust or talk to anyone about the problem for fear that the people they tell will only make the abuse worse. Because of ineffective responses when they tried in the past.

India court urges death penalty for honor killings
Published: May 10, 2011
NEW DELHI: India’s top court has recommended the death penalty for those found guilty of committing so-called “honor killings,” calling it a barbaric and feudal practice.
While there are no official figures, an independent study said each year in India around 900 people — mostly young who fall in love or marry against the wishes of their families — are killed for defying their elders.
The Supreme Court on Monday warned that “people planning to perpetrate honor killings should know that the gallows await them.” In India the death penalty is only given in the “rarest of rare” cases and honor killings, like most other murders, have so far been punished only by life imprisonment.
Judges Markandeya Katju and Gyan Sudha Mishra said honor killings fall within the “rarest of rare” category and deserve to be a capital crime.
The court was ruling on an appeal by a man who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his daughter in 2006 after she had an affair with a cousin. The court rejected his appeal. |
