Gheebah (backbiting, gossip) is when a person mentions the faults of his Muslim brother in his absence, which he would not like if he heard or if it was said to him/her in person; especially when there is no need to mention the issues.

Note the Muslim brother part, as I understand it, this excludes the kaafir (non-muslims), backbiting/gossip/etc. is not considered gheebah if said/done about/to a kaafir. As a result it is not considered as a sin/wrong when done against non-Muslims, non-believers, etc.

Guess this statement does not apply to Islam:
